KAWAK
MODEL 34580
BATTERY RETROFIT FOR THE THRUSH S2R AIRCRAFT
WITH TPE331 ENGINE
FAA STC NO. SA00419SE
KAWAK AVIATION TECHNOLOGIES offers
a solution to the problem of slow starts, cooked
batteries, frequent changes, and expensive replacement
batteries in its battery system retrofit for the
Thrush S2R series aircraft with TPE331 engines.
This system has a 20 year long successful history
in Kawak’s own TPE331 engine installation
for the Thrush S2R now available for the factory
produced TPE331 powered aircraft. This kit authoritatively
deals with the known shortcomings of overheated
batteries and subsequent short life in the original
installation.
Made specifically to be reliable, inexpensive,
and effective. As an added bonus, the kit comes
with the provision to upgrade the master relay
to 400 amps providing a redundant relay to disengage
the starter in the event the starter relay welds
the contactors closed. Avoids destruction of the
starter/generator.

HIGH OUTPUT SEALED LEAD CALCIUM BATTERIES
Commercially available Delco CT-900
batteries with proven performance and economical
purchase price. Ballast weight can be reduced
on aircraft and traded for in essence a built
in "Start Cart".
ALL STAINLESS BATTERY ENCLOSURE
Battery box is specially designed with
flow thru ventilation eliminating heat build
up within the battery box.
HEAT SHIELDED FROM EXHAUST SYSTEM
Batteries are positioned away from
exhaust and shielded from radiant heat off the
exhaust.
STAINLESS ELECTRICAL JUNCTION BOX
Relays, voltage regulator, etc. are
neatly rearranged in a stainless junction box
protecting components and live electrical terminals
when conducting maintenance.
OPTIONAL 400 AMP MASTER RELAY UPGRADE
Original wiring scheme left the starter-generator
vulnerable in the event of welded relay contactors
and no way to disengage starter without removing
cowling and disconnecting a battery cable. A
dangerous situation with a rotating prop and the
inevitable result being a completely destroyed
starter-generator. This retrofit offers provisions
to install a redundant 400 amp relay to break
the starter circuit in the event of a primary
starter relay failure.
